Cambodia Casinos

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; still, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of many borders.

The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling den, contains 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel compound that contains a number of comforts accompanying the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and 88 table games.
