Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship casino, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel building that features a number of luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which provides ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and 88 table games.
